Once you have learned the skill Animal Husbandry, you can ask chickens to incubate seasoned eggs. It takes a minute or two for a chicken to incubate that egg, which will then turn into a baby animal and appear in your inventory. If you change locations while the chicken is incubating the egg, the incubation action will cease & the egg will be lost.
