Start Here Discussion

Yeah, I just got the Google Message. Can you make a new page? I am not sure where to put it.-Aniloverl 08:24, 12 March 2011 (MST)

I think Ani and I are itching to put together a couple pages, could really use some help with How To.. I'm terrified to mess things up. Could also use a real-time way to collaborate with folks (and I'm horrible with IRC). I'm Travinara.Glitch@gmail.com if we think that will be a viable talk point... Congratulate Eglantine when you get a chance, babies ROCK! -- Travinara 12 Mar 2011 10:53 MST

  • Sure I can make a new page and add it to the home page. But! What shall I call the new page? - Hburger 12:45, 12 March 2011 (MST)
  • Someone suggested "Start Here", my Dad, he plays, suggested we make a little pop-up the first time you visit.Thanks-Aniloverl 09:08, 13 March 2011 (MDT)
  • Ani put together a really awesome Start Here page. I've linked it into the top of the FAQ, but it really should have its own space in the Quick Links. Travinara 16 Mar 2011 23:15 MDT
    • I've done what I could, but without extensive Wiki editing knowledge of tables and code (blargh, I wish I knew - the front page, although it makes vague sense in code form, anything I did seemed to break it), all I could do is put in the the place of the Frequently Asked Questions link and move that down under Community. See the Main Page. I've contacted Eglantine so when she's feeling better, hopefully she'll be able to put in on top of the Animals pic, making Start here take centre stage in Quick Links. - Hburger 04:25, 17 March 2011 (MDT)

Map Tags

Heya Hburger! I was wondering, is there a way I can insert HTML like <map> tags? I want to do an image map of the glitch interface, so then people could click on a part of the interface, and it would take them to the respective article about it. I tried myself, but only some of the tags worked. (Seems to be a Mediawiki default, according to my Googling, but maybe you can change it?) Mocha, the truly awesome. 15:15, 12 March 2011 (MST) Edit: Found a MediaWiki extension for adding image maps, works the same way like the map tag, using coordinates on the image. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ImageMap

  • Ohh crap. Umm, I don't know about HTML tags + Wiki +extensions. Sorry! User:Herp Derp is probably the one to talk to about that stuff as he handles templates and extensions, but recently he's not been around recently (pregnant and had same due date as User:Eglantine. Hmm. - Hburger 06:38, 13 March 2011 (MDT)
  • Haha, kk. No problem, I'll try and ask Herp once he's back. Thanks for the help! :) Mocha, the truly awesome. 08:59, 13 March 2011 (MDT)

Page Titles

I'm starting to run across duplicate pages, and some of the titles are not uniform. I think you found the Spread the H20 Love (though the correct one is Spread the H20 Love! - it's the Quest title) already... the ones that currently gripe me are the party pages. Hellish Party is titled "Hellish party", but nude party is correctly titled Nude Party. The capitalization may be a small detail, but it's a huge one when it comes to what Wiki picks up on in referencing things. Also, I'm running into bad links due to spelling differences between the Queens English and the Wiki US English.

So my question to you is, do you have a preferred method for handling the bad page titles? I'm more than happy to create a duplicate page correctly titled and send you a list so you can kill the duplicates... or just send you a list as I come across them. -- User:Travinara 11:40 MDT 30 Mar 2011

Hi! I was going to suggest putting a redirect link onto the current pages with small spelling differences (capitalization), but I guess copy/pasting the old text to a new page would work too. I think that way works best actually - so sure, go ahead and create duplicates, then send me the incorrect pages so I can delete them. Thanks for contacting me about this! :) - Hburger 11:58, 30 March 2011 (MDT)

Quick ?.. did you want the quoted text in the quests linked and indented? I've been leaving them as direct quotations from the game text so far, but if you'd prefer a different format let me know so I can spare you the tidy up later. -- User: Travinara 1055 MDT 31 Mar 2011

Yup, indented using a single colon, and linked instead of bold. See here! :) - Hburger
