Only during Zilloween, Pumpkins can be grown and carved to make Carved Pumpkins. When it isn't Zilloween, pumpkins cannot be carved.
There are 5 different Carved Pumpkins:
Carving all 5 gives the Pumpkin Carver badge. Since carving a pumpkin gives a random carved pumpkin, it will take an average of 11.4 pumpkins to get a complete set, although lucky folks could do it in 5, and very unlucky folks could carve 100 and still be missing one. (11.4 = 1 + 1.25 + 1.66 + 2.5 + 5; each term representing the average number of days you are "stuck" with a certain number of distinct carved pumpkins)
You can Light a carved pumpkin if you have a full Firefly Jar. This empties the jar. If you wish to light multiple pumpkins, take multiple jars, or take a single jar and all the pumpkins to Shimla Mirch or another firefly-infested zone.
A lit pumpkin can be taught to say up to three phrases (like the Garden Gnome), one of which appears in a word bubble above the pumpkin when a glitch walks nearby.
When Zilloween is over, all carved pumpkins on the ground or in bags became Roasted Pepitas; lit pumpkins became Pumpkin Pie.
