Could someone add Begin With the Beaker to the list of quests? I still don't know how to create a page here. The quest is to make one Fertilidust Lite with the beaker. The reward is 25 favor, 250xp 150₡ and 50 energy --caley dunn 09:56, 27 March 2011 (MDT)

Quoting

Hi all, when writing the quest description (from the quest log in-game), can we use:

"Quest description example"
:"Quest description example"

Note the indent made with the colon - I think it separates the quote out making it easier to see that it is indeed text from the game.

Of course I'm open to ideas if anyone has objections, but I'll start putting this into effect on current quest pages! Thanks! - Hburger 10:20, 31 March 2011 (MDT)

When writing the pages, I've tried really hard to keep the text a direct lift from the game. It's a direct quote and all... so I linked all of the important words in the text outside of the quote. I won't bother bolding the word the developers did going forward, but I think it's wrong to incorrectly quote the original writing. Shouldn't the quotations go too and just rely on the indent to offset the text if we're making changes to it?

We also seem to disagree over Quest and Skill being proper nouns. Let me know when you're done editing quite literally everything I've done... 90% of those pages are in the format I wrote them in. Don't know why I bothered to copy everything directly in the first place if we're just going to edit at random. I'll go off of whatever format you lot figure out, will check back after the next test. Not gonna waste my energy to have to go back and re-write things again and again.

P.S the area is Rooks' Woods according to the devs, and the Giant is named Tii. I'm not an idiot and I really feel like my efforts have been totally second guessed here. -- User:Travinara 1135 MDT 31 March 2011

Oh my... sorry!

The direct quote- It's more useful to readers to have links instead of bold, and since we're not changing any actual text inside, well, it can remain a quote... anyway, in time, we expect the bold text in the quest log in-game to become encyclopedia links. How is linking to the wiki page changing the quote itself?

The Rooks' Woods bit - I simply thought the link in the rook fighting quest was a mistake since the name didn't link correctly, which is why I changed it. Tii changes are to be made by Eglantinebot, right?

The quest and skill links/capitilisation - well, since nearly all other mentions of the words don't have capital letters, and even on the Alpha Skills page, then again, I assumed it'd look better (for consistency at least) if the quest pages links shouldn't be capitalised either...

PS. The note under every edit page says: "If you do not want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then do not submit it here."... small editing like this is the main part of the wiki experience...? - Hburger 12:05, 31 March 2011 (MDT)

Berger, you're making 2 grammatical mistakes to satisfy a visual preference. Quest and Skill in these instances are capitonyms - a type of proper noun, and should be capitalized. Just because half the world gets this wrong it is not an excuse to 'correct' good grammar with bad. Let me give you a couple of examples: A) I am on a quest to fine Joe. B) I am on a Quest to nibble pigs. Quest has an entirely different connotation, delineating a specific grouping or reference. Proper Noun. C) I think jumping is a skill. D) I know Gardening is a Skill. Gardening and Skill in this case specify a specific grouping or item. Proper Noun.

Second issue, when you put those links inside a quote, you change the statement, and therefore are mis-quoting. You prefer the links, then take the quotes away... I won't bother leaving the dev's spelling and grammar mistakes in. It's an either-or grammatically. The readers get all of the links in the article, and adding them to the quote makes the page visually cluttered with links. You want the extra, fine, but it's weird to link the same item 3-4 times in a short article.

Also, if you're thinking all the words in bold are going to be links in game, why in the world are you removing those reference points? None of us are going to remember where all of the bold words were if you've gone and removed them all as well as added extra links in the text?

Small edits with poor grammar replacing good should *not* be part of the wiki experience, and that's exactly what you've done to me. Sorry, I can't be supportive about changes that are incorrect. -- User:Travinara 12:20 MDT 31 March 2011

Personally, I think user appeal is more important than petty grammar mistakes. - Hburger 12:27, 2 April 2011 (MDT)

The entire point of grammar in a wiki is to provide uniformity and consistency, to avoid constantly editing and re-editing. Your wiki, your way. As stated, I can't be supportive of incorrect. I'll tidy my data, make it accessible and take my leave. - User:Travinara 16:37 MDT 6 Apr 2011
