General Discussion

Ok, we do not have a good way of communicating right now. We need to set some standards and start creating templates and populating the pages. I'm creating a Google Group which will allow us to keep email communications. If you do not want to be on this list - do not respond. I don't think you have to do anything to remove yourself from it. Any suggestions? I think that wikis are great - but not the best for communicating in this form. --Bingobar 19:05, 16 January 2011 (MST)

There is now an IRC and Google Group. See the following categories on the page, or the Glitch_Strategy:Community_portal for more info. --Bingobar 13:13, 31 January 2011 (MST)

Wait, what's wrong with the Glitch Strategy Wiki group forum [1] we've been using? Not dying to give out my email address [edit: you'll see below that I created a new email account so this isn't an issue for me any longer] - Eglantine

Prefer not to give out my email address as well, but I admit the Glitch groups are a pita to post in sometimes (tip: post in html mode). Vote to remain in the glitch wiki group. -Ping 22:03, 16 January 2011 (MST)

Well, good point about the Glitch groups. Well I've created a forwarding gmail address which I'll put on my user page so that (I think) at least I can read the Google Group even if I don't respond. - Eglantine 22:08, 16 January 2011 (MST)

Good idea, Eglantine. Did the same. -Ping 22:54, 16 January 2011 (MST)

Who's joining this? I will if others we're all going to use it. - Hburger 09:23, 17 January 2011 (MST)

Hburger - I'm not sure anyone has signed up yet since Bingobar hasn't given any information on how to do so. BTW, I just learned yesterday that you can automatically sign your posts on wiki by typing "~" four times in a row into the page :), check it out using the "Show Preview" button - Eglantine 09:02, 17 January 2011 (MST)

Ahhh! I was wondering how you guys did that! Thanks! - Hburger 09:23, 17 January 2011 (MST)

The Glitch encyclopedia has been heavily updated. Now they list more basic information about things (I looked at a spice). Johnny 13:06, 18 January 2011 (MST)

How do I connect to the Google Group? Either is fine with me. Lelu 15:11, 18 January 2011 (MST)

I personally think that the Google Group would be better, but it seems like most people think differently. Whichever is fine with me! Houdini 11:58, 19 January 2011 (MST)

Requests for automated bot edits

For all items, under Actions, can a bot put information for 'Drop' and 'Give', so it's uniform across everywhere and saves time...? - Hburger 10:11, 20 January 2011 (MST)

Done - Eglantine

Is it possible to add the primary artist's name to the infobox for places? For example, Wintry Place article attributes it to Kukubee, but it might be nice if that was inside the infobox template. Is there an existing field or label that can be utilized for this? It might be nice further in the future of Glitch to give clearer credit to artists, plus act as an incentive for new artists to contribute... Kaushka 08:46, 4 February 2011 (MST)

Terrific idea! It's on my to-do list now. Feel free to bug me if it's not done in a week, ok? - Eglantine 14:57, 4 February 2011 (MST)
Done - template added to the existing streets. By default the field is empty so it doesn't show up unless you set it to something. - Eglantine 20:43, 5 February 2011 (MST)

Adding a copyright notice

I think the Homepage (at the very least) should have a Glitch / Tiny Speck copyright notice for some of the content. Something like: "Images Copyright © 2009-2011 Tiny Speck, Inc. All rights reserved. Used With Permission." Perhaps make it part of the normal page template? Kaushka 07:59, 5 February 2011 (MST)

+1 Ixirim 09:26, 5 February 2011 (MST)
That would probably be a good idea, screenshots will get out anyway though.Aniloverl 15:47, 5 February 2011 (MST)
+1, Herp is the only one with powers to do this so we'll have to ask him. - Eglantine 17:04, 5 February 2011 (MST)

IRC

By the way, if you want easy communication and chat, setting up an IRC channel on irc.lurkmore.com would be fine. There's the #glitch channel already on there but it's open to non-wiki Glitchizens as well. Setting up a #glitchwiki channel would be a good idea. Johnny 15:12, 19 January 2011 (MST)

Oh, Houdini, I'm totally fine with the Google Group now that I have a glitch-only email address... just waiting to get an invitation for it. Johnny, is the existing lurkmore IRC channel the one here: Glitch_Strategy:Community_portal? - Eglantine 17:18, 19 January 2011 (MST)

Eglantine: Oh, OK. And yes, the existing IRC channel is that one. Houdini 10:08, 20 January 2011 (MST)

I hadn't noticed that page. It's the same network, though you might want to use a different channel for the wiki stuff and general chat in the #glitch channel with non-wiki people. Johnny 10:52, 20 January 2011 (MST)

A separate #glitchwiki channel would be pretty smart I think, if you know how to create that. Also, as I'm new to IRC myself... can you tell me how to get a history of the chat that I missed while I was offline? Believe it or not, even I go for hours sometimes with my computer turned off! - Eglantine 12:46, 20 January 2011 (MST)

You might be able to get a copy of someone's log. Mine will probably be very broken up so try asking someone else in channel first! Johnny 00:42, 21 January 2011 (MST)

A key has been set on #glitchwiki, it is gstrat. In mIRC (and likely, most clients) you would use the command /join #glitchwiki gstrat to join. Johnny 00:42, 21 January 2011 (MST)

Does anyone use the irc? Aldaris 13:07, 29 January 2011 (MST)

Yes. We do. I'm pretty much idle all the time (thanks ZNC!). The more people idling, the more possibility for using it as an easy communication tool. --Bingobar 15:10, 31 January 2011 (MST)

Google Group

Anyone can apply for membership over at groups.google.com/group/glitch-strategy. I'm adding the people I see here who say "yes". Get in contact with the other little Glitchians you know who may be interested. --Bingobar 15:44, 20 January 2011 (MST)

Guys, although the Google group is nice, it's a bit spammy and the amount of time for communication could be cut down if you used IRC. I can set up a bot to log and you can access the logs on a passworded page. Johnny 12:13, 31 January 2011 (MST)

Is it spammy? I rather like email communication - it keeps it personal and quick (attach files too). IRC's a that littl'e bit more complicated and don't really allow for such detailed/long answers... - Hburger 12:48, 31 January 2011 (MST)
I don't really feel that it's spammy. It keeps things in threads, and I have gmail everywhere...so it makes it much easier to see replies. Not only that, but if you don't like getting notifications every time, just make a Gmail filter that labels them and skips the inbox. There you go! No more spammy! --Bingobar 13:07, 31 January 2011 (MST)
