Milking butterflies is a multi-step process: first you need to use Butterfly Lotion to massage the butterfly, then milk the same butterfly. To interact with a butterfly without having to click, you can use the keyboard:

• Press space bar to make your character jump up (do it just as the butterfly is above your head)
• Press return when the butterfly is selected (outlined in blue)
• Use letter key to select from the menu, "g" for massage and "l" for milk

The skill Animal Kinship VI allows you to milk butterflies without massaging them first.
