A gem is an item found whilst mining. They are of high value and are often used to gain currants by selling to a Street spirit, or to gain favor by donating to shrines. The only other purpose is when gems needed at a [street project]].
You can increase your chances of finding a gem whilst mining by purchasing a Fancy Pick and learning the Mining skills.
