Stewart Butterfield is the founder of Tiny Speck, the company that makes Glitch.

Born in Canada in 1973, Stewart co-founded the popular photo-sharing website Flickr in 2004 with his company Ludicorp. Flickr was later bought by Yahoo for an undisclosed amount. Previously, his company had created an MMO called Game Neverending, which was canceled in 2004 (GNE is seen to be the informal predecessor to Glitch).

Stewart Butterfield has been awarded a TR35 award as one of the top 35 innovators under the age of 35. In 2005, he was named by Businessweek as one of the Top 50 Leaders in the entrepreneur category. In 2006, he was named in Time Magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world and in the same year, appeared on the cover of Newsweek magazine.

During the alpha testing period of Glitch, Mr. Butterfield was frequently seen in-game as the avatar stoot barfield, which seems to be the pronunciation of his proper name as spoken by an either an 18-month-old child, or by an adult heavily under the influence of an intoxicant.

He currently lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada, where he works at Tiny Speck's Vancouver office.
